Interactive Session on
“Democratization & Reconciliation: Burma at Crossroads”
In view of the new government taking power in Burma, the release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi from 7 consecutive years of house arrest, and the ongoing civil war and ethnic strife in Burma, we are organizing a discussion and interactive session on the theme ‘Democratisation & Reconciliation: Burma at Crossroads’ at the India International Centre on 27 August 2011 between 2pm-5pm.
Speakers will include:
Shirley Seng, Kachin Women’s Association, Thailand: ‘Ceasefire agreements & Peace Process with Ethnic Armed Groups’
Nyo Ohn Myint, Secretary, Foreign Affairs, National League for Democracy (Liberated Areas): ‘Democratization Process After 2010 Elections’
Khin Ohmar, Secretary, Foreign Affairs, Forum for Democracy in Burma: ‘International Responses to Democratization Process in Burma’
Participants will also include Indian intellectuals and activists. Your participation in the discussion is kindly solicited as that will greatly enrich the session.
The session will be preceded by screening of the documentary film “The World’s Longest Ongoing War”, of 25 minutes duration.
